Language Goals for November 2016

October Progress

Spanish

I finally finished watching the second season of Narcos on Netflix.  It looks like the third season will start a whole new story line, and I can’t wait!

I didn’t watch the Celia Cruz series last month, but I am looking forward to getting back to it.

I’ve been listening to the Te invito a un Cafe podcast some mornings and signed up for one of the courses for more vocabulary exposure.

The highlight of October was attending a cooking class at the home of an amazing Peruvian chef!  We made causa (a layered potato dish) and ceviche, which were both delicious and my first time ever having either 🙂

I also hosted another Spanish meet-up in October. We have been having a monthly happy hour and a nice crowd every time.

I’ve met Spanish speakers from Argentina  and who studied in Uruguay, so I’ve been able to hear new accents and vocabulary.

My son has been doing great in his Spanish class, and he has memorized most of the songs on his CD.  He does short sessions about 3 times a week with the Mango app.

He is also writing the days of the week, months of the year, and other vocabulary in English and Spanish since he is working on his handwriting in school.

Potruguese Pod 101I listened to more episodes of Portuguese Pod 101, and tested myself on remembering basic conversational phrases.

Goals for November 2016

Spanish (for me) – I’ll get back to the Celia Cruz series and complete an online course in Spanish, most likely on the topic of personal finance.

Spanish (for the little person) –  The after-school Spanish class will wrap up at the end of the month. This month we will work more on writing, spelling, and reinforcing the vocabulary he already knows.

Portuguese – I will continue to listen to the beginner episodes of Portuguese Pod 101, and try out some other apps and resources to incorporate into my study.  I want to revisit the alphabet to be sure I have the sounds down so I can do some basic reading.

  • Awesome! I’d love to read about your experience hosting a real life meet up! It’s something I’ve considered here but didn’t do when I found out there was already one locally – then haven’t yet been to! 😛

It’s definitely on my list of blog topics. I want to explain how my meetup came about even with other Spanish meetups in the area. It was a bit daunting at first because I consider myself an introvert.
